MINUTES OF THE ALLIED PARTNERS MEETING
April 23, 2013

Present: Eileen Dresser, Jack Tiffany, Erica Anderson, Shirley Robbins, Selena Pettigrew, Susan Corrado, Ruth Hoffman Hein, Dorothy Krause, Pam Gates, Barry Hayes, Marge Lyford.

Eileen opened the meeting with a prayer.

MINUTES: The March minutes were approved as written,

TREASURER’S REPORT: Jack Tiffany
The Neighborhood Association has received the $900 contribution from MUM.
The report was approved as presented.

WELLNESS CENTER: Gloria unable to be present. Highlights from written report:
Scheduled topic for Welcomer’s monthly meeting - high risk behavior which could lead to violence, drug and alcohol abuse. Gloria concerned re low turn out for the meeting. Partnered with Allied Community Coop to put on community meal. Good turn out. With Allied Community Coop, attended 3 day training on the Art of Hosting. Helpful! Senior Pasta Health education session focused on making health appointments and keeping them.

EVICTION PREVENTION by Erica Anderson
New to Allied Neighborhood, Erica, a social worker, has taken over from Ryan. Erica’s email address is andersonerica@countyofdane.com. Good income from Eviction Prevention fund this month. 8 residents helped.

FOOD PANTRY by Eileen
The pantry had received large quantities of quartered chickens. Have given some to other organizations because of lack of freezer space.Have been troubled by two incidents of fresh hamburger left in strange places.

ALLIED COOP by Susan
Pending projects: time bank grant, energy conservation project with solar panels and home hints. Selena and Sina Davis will do outreach 2 hours a week to engage neighborhood residents. A landlord has agreed to rent space at a reduced rent for Coop office and activity purposes.

ALLIED DUNN’S MARSH NEIGHBORHOOD by Selena
Will meet with Torry Winn of WI Council on Children and Families and Erica Nelson a child welfare attorney and social policy consultant re racial disparities in Dane County. Will Torry is interested in helping with Brotherhood group and has attended one of their meetings.
Met with Beverly Hutcherson from the Waisman Center. She lives in the area and would like to help with community education workshops.
Met with Julie Anderson, a Edgewood College student, re ways the community could build a relationship with the college and wider community through social innovation. Working on a tour of parks in Dane County for neighborhood residents.

CONTACTING LOCAL CHURCHES
As a follow-up to the letter sent to area churches last fall, Ruth has contacted Heritage Congregational Church re having a presentation.
Susan has started editing the script to accompany the current video. Selena will help.
Jack will take photos at neighborhood events. Sina Davis has also taken some photos.

OTHER CONCERNS
Dorothy mentioned that a new area on the bike path is being paved and a mountain bike park has opened. She envisions every neighborhood child having a bicycle.
